Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame Bylaws

 

 

The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame operates by a set of bylaws adopted by its committee.

WYANDOT SPORTS HALL OF FAME

 

PURPOSE

The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame was established in November of 2009 to honor Wyandot County’s outstanding athletes, its individual groups who have made contributions on and off the playing fields and its premier teams.

CRITERIA AND BY-LAWS

I. ELIGIBILITY

A.  Any individual team or organization must meet at least one of the following requirements to be considered for nomination and induction.

1. Born in Wyandot County;

2. Resident of Wyandot County, who has made a contribution to athletics at a city, county, state, national or international level – directly or indirectly – as an athlete, coach, official, administrator or team;

3. Non-resident of Wyandot County, who or which has made a contribution to athletics within Wyandot County at a city, county, state, national or international level – directly or indirectly – as an athlete, coach, official, administrator or team;

4. Performed meritorious service for athletics in Wyandot County.

B.  The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame’s criteria committee will be responsible for making any change in eligibility requirements on approval of a ¾ vote by the board.

II. NOMINATION

A.  Each Hall of Fame committee member may nominate a maximum of three individuals annually for election into the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame.

1.Hall of Fame committee members shall assume responsibility for researching history on each of their nominations. Complete and accurate information shall be presented to the nomination induction committee chairman by the September meeting each year.

B.  Each Hall of Fame committee member may nominate a maximum of one candidate annually for special recognition into the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame.

1. The special recognition category is designed to honor teams, organizations, contributors and sponsors not eligible into the Hall of Fame under Article II.A.

2. Hall of Fame committee members shall assume responsibility for researching the history on their nomination. Complete and accurate information shall be presented to the nomination-induction committee chairman by the September meeting each year.

C. Nominations must be completed on an official Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame candidate form and submitted to the chairman of the nomination-induction committee by the September meeting in order to be eligible for induction the following year.

D. The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame’s criteria committee will be responsible for making any changes involving the nomination format on approval of ¾ o f the board.

III. INDUCTION

A.  Up to six individuals will be elected to membership in the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame annually.

B.  One special recognition candidate may be elected to membership in the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame annually.

C. Each Hall of Fame committee member may vote for a maximum of six individual nominees and a maximum of one special recognition candidate. The selections shall be designated in writing, on an official Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame ballot and collected by the nomination-induction committee chairman.

D.  Nominees will be elected to membership in the Wyandot Fame committee at the November meeting of each year. If more than two members of the committee are absent from the meeting, the vote will be postponed and a special meeting will be scheduled by the Hall of Fame president:

1. If six individuals are elected to membership in the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame, as outlined above, this will complete the election of individuals for the year;

2. If fewer than six individuals are elected to membership in the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame, as outlined above, an official supplemental ballot will be issued. The ballot will include all names not selected for induction on the first ballot.

a.   The maximum number of individuals, which each member of the Hall of Fame committee may vote for on the supplemental ballot, shall equal the number of persons already inducted subtracted from six.

b.   Hall of Fame committee members shall designate their preference of individuals to be inducted on the supplemental ballot, in descending order of preference by the numbers 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1;

c.   Individuals receiving at least 75 percent of the supplemental vote will be elected to the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame.

d.   If fewer than six candidates have been elected to membership after the supplemental ballot, the nominating-induction chairman shall use the preference (point totals) of the combined committee members to elect the remaining Hall of Fame members.

e.   The president of the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame shall cast the deciding vote for induction of individuals, if a tie for membership exists after all steps of the balloting process have been completed.

f.    There will not be a secondary ballot for the special recognition category.

E.         The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame’s criteria committee will be responsible for making any changes involving the induction on approval of ¾ of the board.
