Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame Nominations

 

 

While the Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame committee does its best to research the past for candidates throughout the history of the county, it relies on the public to also provide candidates.

 

If you would like to nominate a candidate, please download a candidate form, fill it out completely and thoroughly as possible and submit it to nominate@wyandotsportshof.org or to:

Here is a list of some of the candidates who have been nominated. Still make a nomination, even if that person or team already is listed below.

 

Carey

Mike Dasher- Carey (1964) and ONU (1968) grad, all-Ohio in high jump, ONU hall of fame (2005) for track & field.

Bob Donaldson  - Carey (1946)and ONU grad. Play on 1944 final 4 baseball team. Owner of Bob’s Countryside Golf Course.

Beth Williams – Carey (1998) and U of F (2002) grad, 8 times all American, National outdoor NAIA High Jump champ 2000, NCAA Div. II indoor runner-up 2002.

Nick Mengerink – Carey (1996) and Pittsburgh (2000) grad, 2 x state wrestling champ 1995, 96, HS record 136-9. DI all-American 1998, college record 105-28.

Milton Trubey- Carey (1923) and Wittenburg (1927). State champion in track & field. Won the 100 and 220 yd dash in 1923. Inducted into the Ohio track and field hall of fame 2010.

Art Huston – 4 sport star at Carey for 3 yrs. In 1925 called the Red Grange of Ohio high school Football. Ohio State starting half-back and letterman on 1927, 1928, 1929 teams.

Upper Sandusky

John Reed-Upper (1963) grad. College?? 2 state championship, 3 state runner-up, 9 MAC championships as Coldwater football coach. OHSFA Hall of Fame Inductee 2006. HS coaching record 283-126-1.

Dennis Gerber – Upper (1956) grad, hard running full back on Upper football teams of 1953, 54, 55. Upper was NOL runner-up in 1953, 54. NOL champs 1955.

Emily Bastel- Upper (1998) and MSU (2002) grad. Ohio Woman’s Amateur champ 1999, 01, 02. Big 10 POY 2002. 2nd team all-American golfer, played on LPGA 6 yrs., now asst. golf coach at Duke University.

Andra Bell-Upper (1969) and ONU (1973) grad. Girls basketball coach at Upper for 34 yrs., 31 winning seasons (538-207), 10 NOL titles, made it 3 x to State final 4. Inducted into ONU HOF 1990.

David Kuenzli-Upper (1954) and OU (1958). 9 letters in Football, Basketball, Track, baseball @ Upper, 3 letters in football @ OU. Set Upper and NOL records in 1953 for scoring 227 points, rushing for 2160 yds.

Bob Schnelker – Upper and BGSU grad. Football letterman at Upper and BGSU. Played professionally for Cleveland Browns, NY Giants, later coached in NFL.

Megan Horn-Upper (2002) and Notre Dame (2006) grad. Ohio state champ in Shot Put (2000, 01, 02). Only person from Wyandot Co. to ever received a full athletic scholarship to Notre Dame.

 

Mohawk

Aubrey Walton- Mohawk (2004)and Purdue (2007) grad, led Mohawk in 2003 to Div III State championship  in softball  with a 24-0 pitching record.  Set OHSAA record for consecutive wins (43-0).

Kevin Babcock- Mohawk (1976) and Ohio U.(1980) grad. Football rushing leader as running back at both schools. 3839 career rushing yds. in HS and 2614 career rushing yds and 13 rushing TDs at Ohio U.

Andrea Weininger- Mohawk (1989) and Muskingum (1993) grad, basketball & softball star at both. Scored 1342 pts. in HS basketball. Struck out just once in HS softball. NCAA basketball runner-up 90-91.

Dan Bogard-school and year???  Outstanding 3 sport athlete in Basketball (2135 points), baseball, track. All-Ohio in basketball. Played on baseball team that were state runners-up. What year????

Jim Racheter-McCutchenville grad. Only basketball player in school history to score over 1000 points with 1094.

Bill Bogard-Sycamore (1952) grad. Leading scorer in the WCL both his Jr. and Sr. year (career 1,143 points). State high jump runner-up 1951, state champion (6’3 ¾”) 1952. State meet PV qualifier 1952.

 

Wynford

Cheri Harrer-Wynford grad. Basketball coach at Baldwin-Wallace

 

Riverdale

Junior Justice-Only Wharton basketball player to score over 1000 points (1057).
